people always say, everyone deserves a shot. sometimes, i think some people deserve to be shot.
yes. i completed the standard charted marathon but havent had time to post about it cos i was away form 7-9 on church camp and 10-15 in Taiwan.(my parents decided to go somewhere after all... booking was pretty late)
anyway, back to my point. 50 000 people participated in the marathon this year, of which 15000+ are running 42 km and at least 10000 women running 10km. this is as much as i know. the rest? figure out yourselves. everyone's saying, "wow! Singaporeans are getting more active than before!" actually no. honestly. i think at least 60% of the people participating have never run more than the mandatory 2.4km during school and they suddenly expect to have the stamina to run 42 or 21 km. let alone 10k...the marathon was thus nothing more than a big human congestion. for the last 3km at least. otherthan that, it was still pretty much ok.
woke up at 6AM to get ready. 42km had already started half an hour ago... crowd was very large at the starting point and despite me squeezing all the way to the front, i still spent 1 whole km trying to free myself of the stupid crowd. seriously. its a super lot of people. this event is over publicized. btw, i was running my 2.4 speed for the first 1km. but it got better after that. ran round the marina area and all theway to rochor road side. sad... only interesting thing in 10k route is the boring singapore flyer... 21k and 42k run past the F1 pit stop.... is that cool or what? no fair.... im not 16 yet... paced a few random people for the first 5 km and discovered that the newspaper reported EVERYTHING WRONGLY. the drink stand for 100 plus was not at 9k but at 6 and 8 km and there was no such thing as a grape flavour 100 plus. nvm. i was happy. then the whole human traffic jam started as the 21 and 42km started to cut in. and when i mention massive i really mean it. there were just so many people strolling and blocking up the whole path. imagine. a 4 lane wide road blocked up with so many people and this spans for 3km. super fustrating.
well, but i still made it and hit my target of below 1 hr. i just hope that the event organisers will plan a less congested route the next time... i could have run much faster than this if only there was no crowd.... wahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
i shall blog about taiwan the next time. for now, procastination!
