Efficient Solar water disinfector using bamboo green house
Solar Water Disinfection Process (SODIS) (http://www.sodis.ch/) is a simple technology used to improve the microbiological quality (i.e. kill germs) of drinking water. SODIS uses solar radiation (UV-A radiation) to destroy pathogenic microorganisms. However, depends on the weather conductions, the process normally takes 6hrs to 2 days for treatment and could not completely inactivate all pathogens causing diarrhoea. One simple way to increase the efficiency of SODIS is to increase the temperature of the water under treatment (e.g. up to 45°C or higher). The main objective of this project is to design of small “green house” using bamboo and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or similar materials as the main building materials so that both the high temperature and large dosage of UV-A could be achieved to increase effectiveness and efficiency SODIS process.
